My name is Brittany Kiser, and I am a high school math teacher in Michigan. I have been teaching since I graduated with from Taylor University in 2012 with a Mathematics Education degree.
I spent my first three years as a Title I middle school math teacher. After spending time teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, I learned so much about the common mistakes and misunderstandings of students. Now, as a high school math teacher, I am so thankful for the background knowledge I gained through my time teaching middle school math. I have a much better understanding of what students have seen and struggled with prior to high school, and it helps me build on what they already know. At the high school, I still teach math intervention classes, so I get to work with the students who are struggling the most in our school. For me, I see this as an opportunity to witness immense growth in students! Students come into my classroom when they have fallen behind their peers in a regular math class, and by this point, these students have already given up on math. In my class, they have the opportunity to gain confidence, relearn basic skills, gain confidence, and become leaders! I love being a part of this journey for students.
